Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) set to buy 3 new Augusta AW139 for surveillance and Search and Rescue
Agusta Westland communication manager Geoff Russell said "They have agreed to the purchase price and are now finalising the terms and conditions of the agreement." He also said that "These will be the first 3 aircraft of 12 the MMEA has agreed to buy from Agusta Westland." The price of each helicopter will be based on the technical specification the MMEA has agreed to install in the aircraft. It is understood that the helicopters will also be equipped with radar to assist in the surveillance of Malaysian waters. The AW139 is capable of long range Search and Rescue missions over Malaysian waters and neighbouring countries. In November last year the MMEA acquired 3 Dauphin AS365 N3 aircraft from Eurocopter used for similar operations.
